The Cotton Research and Development Association (CRDA) was founded in 1986 in the Cotton Section of the Department of Plant Breeding, CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar as its Head Quarter. Late Sh. Jai Lal Dalal, then Director of Agriculture, Govt. of Haryana was its founder President and Dr. M.S. Kairon, as its founder Secretary. It is a Registered Association under Registrar of Societies Act with a Registration No. 130 of 1986 and ISSN No. 0972-8619.

An International Journal i.e. Journal of Cotton Research and Development, official organ of Cotton Research and Development Association is devoted to original research in Cotton related agriculture and technology, its byproducts and allied products. It is published twice a year in January and July. The first issue of the Journal was published in January, 1987 and since then 28 volumes have been published with a quality and timely publication.

The association has 169 registered life members, 250-300 annual members and 28 Libraries/Institutions as annual members. The main activity of the Association is to publish the journal, to organise symposium once in three years as per mandate of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) from where the Association is getting matching financial grant of Rs. 1.5 lac every year for the publication of the journal. The journal has scored a 3.41 NAAS rating. Uptil now, the Association has organised seven symposia at different Agricultural University/Institution across the country. Last two symposia held at ANGRAU, Hyderabad during August 2004 as Mr. M. Prabhakar Rao, Managing Director of Nuziveedu as Organising Secretary and at CICR, Nagpur during November 2009 Director, CICR as Organising Secretary were not less than of an International standard in term of management and presentation.

Since the Association has completed 25 years of its smooth existence in 2011and it was planned to organise the International Symposium at its headquarter during 2011 but due to the World Research Cotton Conference during November 2011 at Mumbai, the organisation of this Symposium was postponed and was organised at CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar from October 10-12, 2012. During the Symposium, the Association felicitate the stalwarts in their respective fields with “Life Time Achievement Award”. From this time the Association has also introduced “Young Scientist Award” for the scientist below the age of 35 years, “Public Private Partnership Award” to the Industries who are joining hands in the sustainability of cotton production.

Another most important segment, “Corporate Advisors” has also been introduced from 2011 for their valuable advice for the better functioning of the Association and the honourable members are Mr. M.
